Recover Your Autosave Through a Manual Slot
For an “An Error Occurred” crash when a day ends after loading an autosave, try copying the autosave into a manual slot, then loading and saving from that slot. This is an unofficial Steam player workaround for a particular autosave problem, so back up your entire save folder before changing files.
The matching reports describe the day-end error alongside a manual slot displaying a 1969 date. Another player reported success with the workaround, but that does not make it a guaranteed recovery method for every save crash.
Match the Symptom and Protect Your Saves
PC and Steam Deck players have reported this autosave-related error. The procedure below uses the Windows save folder; keep that platform boundary in mind when locating your files.
Keep an untouched copy of the entire save folder before attempting recovery. Editing save files carries a risk of data loss, and preserving the folder gives you the original files to return to if the attempt does not help.
If your established save crashes shortly after loading following an update, read the update section below before treating this as the autosave day-end problem. Players have also reported that separate pattern, and the manual-slot workaround is not established as its solution.
Move the Autosave Into a Manual Slot
- Close the game before working on its save files. Begin the recovery attempt with the game shut down.
- Back up the entire Windows save folder at %LOCALAPPDATA%\OPGG\saves\<SteamID>. Keep this backup separate and untouched while you work on the original folder.
- Turn off Steam Cloud for the game through Properties → General. The reported workaround disables it so Steam does not overwrite the local file changes.
- Locate file 0002 in the original save folder. The community instructions identify it as Slot 1, the manual slot that will receive a copy of your autosave.
- Rename the existing 0002 file to 0002_old. This preserves the original manual-slot file while freeing its filename for the replacement.
- Copy autosave file 0001 into the same folder under the name 0002. Copy the file so the original autosave remains available and its duplicate occupies Slot 1.
- Load Slot 1 in the game. The workaround's author says the slot list may still show the wrong day or date at this point, while the loaded game shows the actual progress.
- Save from within the loaded game. The player reported that this refreshed the slot information and allowed the day transition to work normally again.
- Check the next day transition to see whether the workaround helped your save. Keep your backup while assessing the result.
- Re-enable Steam Cloud after loading and saving successfully from the manual slot. This completes the reported recovery sequence.
- Continue future sessions from Slot 1. The player who shared the workaround recommends using that manual slot when resuming afterward.
Why the Workaround Uses a Manual Slot
The player who posted the workaround attributed their crash to loading the autosave as “slot -1” and then reaching an end-of-day event that tries to save. Their recovery method moved the autosave data into an ordinary manual slot.
Treat that explanation as the player's account of this particular failure. The useful recovery check is whether your copied save loads with the expected progress and can pass the day transition after an in-game save.
Existing Saves That Crash After an Update
Steam version 1.0.9 followed on October 30, 2026, with stability improvements announced. Those improvements do not establish that this specific save-loading problem was fixed, so preserve your backup before testing the affected save.
After backing up, install the latest available update before testing again, as the official notice recommends updating before play. If the save still fails, report the crash to Bandai Namco support and describe whether it happens immediately after loading or at the end of the day.
Questions During Save Recovery
- What if the manual slot still shows the wrong date?
- The workaround's author reported that incorrect day and date information could remain in the slot list after copying the file. Load Slot 1 to inspect the actual progress, then save in game to refresh the slot information.
- Can I try an earlier autosave?
- The same player identifies 0008 as the previous autosave and suggests copying it to 0002 if the latest autosave, 0001, is bad. Preserve your original folder before attempting this fallback and check the loaded progress carefully.
- Will verifying Steam files repair the affected save?
- Verifying files did not help the post-update save-loading failure reported by some Steam players. Keep your save folder backed up, test the available update, and report a persistent crash to Bandai Namco support.
